Review:
'Easy' is more than just a love story , it's a real life lesson on how to survive an attempted rape, on how to reintegrate into society and go head up when the rumors degrading accompany you everywhere ...
" Easy " presents the events in the life of Jacqueline , a girl in love with music that gave the aforementioned passion to follow her boyfriend from high school to his dream's college . Once inside, his naturally charismatic and attractive manages to successfully integrate amongst his peers and even from a fraternity , like his father. Living in the frat's house, Jacqueline's boyfriend, Kennedy knows some girls who are not afraid to mess with a guy that's already in a relationship and so he decides to break up with her because he doesn't want to have this unfulfilled desire, or more specifically, he plans to build a political career and, of course , he couldn't allow himself an affair at that time , therefore , he believes that he has to get this out of his system ... what would you do in her place?
Well, I wanted to high five her ( figuratively speaking) and to encourage the gesture of throwing a book at his head .Ah ... but the real story starts now and looming plot ... the existence of an event that would have been commonplace in its existence as a Halloween party hosted at the home of one of college fraternities . Jacqueline , Jackie , wants to find a new beginning, but it is very difficult when her boyfriend from high school , the boy who risked everything and gave him all- her name, passion , dreams , identity breaks up with her so easly just to enjoy life's pleasures without feeling guilty ...
It becomes more than obvious that her life falls apart completely when she begin to miss classes because she doesn't want to meet him , so she starts to slip at the economy and can not cope with stress , so she refuses to leave her own room and refuses to try to rebuild what little social life she has ...Of course, it doesn't help the fact not that when Kennedy broke up her, their friends practically took his side , and the few friends that Jacqueline has are....Erin and Chaz , as the boyfriend of Erin, are the only ones that remain with Jacqueline and at Erin 's insistence , which she's a part of the frat's girls on that college , she convinces Jacqueline to go at the party , witch brings desperation also a small hope that everything will work out in her favor and there, on neutral ground will also be Kennedy. Of course, that he wouldn't be unaccompanied , he being surrounded by admirers that are ironically dressed in angels , while she wore a devil costume . Ironic , is it not ? If we think that in normal life , the roles were reversed ....
Angry , disappointed again , helpless and depressed , the only thing she wants to do is to spend the rest of the night crying in her room , so she leaves from the party and on the way back to her truck, that it's parked in front of fraternity , Jacqueline is attacked by Buck, Chaz's best friend and one of Kennedy 's friends . During the time that they know each other , Buck was mannered and just a good friend , of course it was just for show , because in reality he and Kennedy were fighting fiercely for the frat in the leader's role and Buck lost .
Specifically, the worst seems to happen ... but a stranger from the darkness arise ... Jacqueline doesn't knows who he is , but she is very grateful that he saved her from that possible rape. The stranger , although he appears dangerous , however he did save her life , so she allowed him to drive her back to the girls' bedroom and this is how Jacqueline meets Lucas .
Meanwhile , her school's situation seems disastrous , so she needs the help of a tutor , a tutor that Heller, her teacher of economy recommend, one named Landon Maxfield , one of his former students , and the son of a family's friend , this is how is born a friendship between Landon and Jacqueline , but while doing that she could fall in love with him, she also feels increasingly drawn to Lucas, the boy who saved the night of attempted rape .And Lucas is all she can afford at the time, a few nights of passion with him to forget Kennedy , at least that's the her friends and she accepts believing that in this way you can go ahead and look all that fiasco with the separation , and the Buck .
Unfortunately, things do not go as planned because Lucas hides more secrets than they thought and she wants to know them , to know Him , but what will she do now that Landon is also in the scene ?
More serious is that Buck , although humiliated and beaten , can not resign with the loss of Jacqueline , so he waited, knowing that his time will come ....
The narration is done in the first person with Jacqueline's voice , and with her help the reader can connect to the story line and to experience everything through her eyes , although he will be a little confused about the intentions of Lucas and about Landon 's identity , but that is what the writer wants ...
Characters :
Jacqueline , Jackie , as Kennedy named her - is a complex character and well created . Initially, her whole life was built around Kennedy , whom she considered to be the only man in her life . Obviously not, because he is willing to give up without any remorse in exchange for life's guilty pleasures . With a life so deeply connected with her ex , it's very difficult to give it up and accept the harsh reality , that she sacrificed her passion , dreams for his dreams , of course , with the appearence of Lucas in the scene the situation does not change case over night , but slowly it changes focus, until the reader begins to forget about Jacqueline's disappointment from the first chapters .Jacqueline is a tough, even though she seems innocent and fragile, a character who can say what she wants without fear , but we see only the final transformation to the end of the novel when she comes out of her sheld , and she realizes that she can defend herself ...
Lucas - mysterious , a quiet character that kind of quiet and powerful protector , you can count on without doubt that you will not disappoint you . I am not going to reveal much, because the magic of this book is based heavily on the mystery surrounding his presence...
Kennedy is the golden boy , the kind of character that from the first moment you'll know him, you'll find him to be the perfect candidate for role of U.S. president , but behind that facade is a boy with many flaws and shortcomings, it's a character who wants a perfect wife and tries to make Jacqueline that person during their relationship, to transform her in Jackie, a shallow shadow of her former self and probably would have succeeded if Lucas would not have appeared in the picture ...
Buck - a jerk . The kind of person miserable, unscrupulous and one of the worst kind of people that society has ...
Final Verdict - A novel that teaches us not to give in to any kind of abuse , physical or emotional , try to stay true to ourselves and not succumb to external pressures that could come from a regular boyfriend to get what he wants, or from a stranger . A novel about love and the opportunity to love again , especially to not try to deny that yourself that pleasure ...
My Rating : 5/5 .
Quotes:
“Love is not the absence of logic
but logic examined and recalculated
heated and curved to fit
inside the contours of the heart”
“Choosing to be with you, isn't a difficult decision, Jacqueline...It's easy. Incredibly easy.”
“I wanted to tell you that I just--I miss you. And maybe that sounds ridiculous--like we barely know each other, but between the emails and texts and... everything else, I felt like we did. Like we do. and I miss--I don't know how else to say it--I miss both of you.”
“You're full of contradictions, Ms. Wallace."
I looked up at him and arched a brow. "I'm a girl. That's part of the job description, Mr. Maxfield.”
“The night we met-I'm not like that guy." His jaw was rigid.
"I know tha-" He placed a finger over my lips, his expression softening.
"So I don't want you to feel pressured. Or overpowered. But I do, absolutely, want to kiss you right now. Badly.”
“Unfortunately, the coughing drew her attention. "Are you dying or something?" she asked, affecting a perfect sneer as I shook my head. "Well, hacking up a lung out in public isn't all that attractive--just sayin'."
My face flamed, but then Benji leaned up and spoke around me. "Um, giving half the class an exhaustive summary every Monday morning--in lurid detail--of how much of an alcoholic skank you are? Isn't all that attractive either. Just sayin'.”
“The truth was, he now belonged only to my past, and it was time I begin to accept it, as much as it hurt to do so.”
“If someone had asked, "How does this compare to kissing Kennedy?" I would have answered, "Who?”
“As for being somewhere you're not supposed to be--Maybe you're here for a reason, or there is no reason.”
