Interview with Bryony Pearce the author of Angel's Fury

Ms. Pearce I'm really glad that you granted me this interview!

1) How and why have you started to write? Were there something or someone that gave you an impulse?

     I've always wanted to be a writer. For as long as I can remember I have loved books, made up stories of my own and dreamed of having my name on a book spine. I started to write seriously in 2004, that is when I had my idea for my first novel and decided to really do something about it. My husband's support enabled me to spend time writing, when I suppose I should have been doing other things.

2) Tell me something about your book Angel's Fury.

     Angel's Fury was my first published novel, which came out in 2011. It won two awards: the Leeds Book Award and the Cheshire Schools Book Award. It is about a teenaged girl who suffers from terrible nightmares, who discovers that she has lived before (and that she is dreaming about her past life) and that all of her lives are being manipulated by a fallen angel who is trying to destroy mankind.

     My second book, titled The Weight of Souls, is out on the 1st August. This is about a teenage girl who can see ghosts. If a ghost touches her she is compelled to avenge its death. It is about bullying and all the terrible things we will do to fit in ... and also Egyptian Gods.

3) While youre writing, have you discovered a character that you where developing feelings of love for? And was there a character that gave you headaches?

     I love all my characters, to be honest, even the really evil ones. They have all lived with me for so long and I know them so well. The character that gave me the most headaches is in a book that has not been published yet, he would not follow the plan I had laid out for him and eventually I had to kill him off to stop him misbehaving!

4) How have you done your research for this novel?

     I always do an awful lot of research for my novels, I like to write contemporary fiction and set my work in real places, but with a supernatural twist and I firmly believe that the more realistic the backdrop, the more creepy the supernatural elements become. For Angel's Fury I did a great amount of research into the second world war, the KKK, psychological techniques, reincarnation and Christian mythologies (and more). For The Weight of Souls I researched Egyptian mythology, archaeology and deindividuation theory. I visited London to make sure I remembered it clearly and I researched genetics to make sure I had Taylor's curse passed down correctly. I used libraries, the Internet, my own books and spoke to experts. I wanted people to believe in my worlds.

5) Is there a book that inspired your writings?

     I have always been very inspired by the writing style of Anne Macaffrey. I am a big fan and always wanted to write like her. Her characters are so vivid, her worlds so fully realised and she covers some very important issues in her fiction.

1) How and why have you started to write? Were there something or someone that gave you an impulse?
      I started writing when I could hold a pencil and scribble notes to my parents, so I guess the want to express myself to them was a motivation, but really, it became more about getting all those crazy ideas in my head down on paper!

2) Tell me something about your book Indelible.
     Indelible is my answer to the immortal hottie swooping in to show the 16 year old human the way to her heart as well as having a love interest who isn't a sexually-experienced, arrogant, aloof bad boy. Innocence and exploration can be sexy! Girls can know something about themselves and the world! Basically, it's another one of my books that began with a rant and inspired me with a story all its own.

3) While you're writing, have you discovered a character that you where developing feelings of love for? And was there a character that gave you headaches?
      HAHAHA! Well, I adore Graus Claude, but not in the romantic sense aside from the fact that he is a romanticized character from a bygone era. And Inq--as much as I love her--drove me CRAZY because she clearly wants a book or two all of her own. I spent a lot of time and edits trying to stop her from hogging the spotlight!

4) How have you done your research for this novel?

     I am already a big fan of classic fairy tales from Brothers Grimm to Hans Christian Andersen to Oscar Wilde and the collections of Andrew Lang which included various fairy tales from around the world. Borrowing a lot of old lore as well as my personal favorite myths from my background studies in cultural anthropology made a mish-mash of things that sounded like they could have been true, or an old legend from our world. I think the best fiction often has at least a toehold in fact.

5) Is there a book that inspired your writings?

     Just one? Honestly, I couldn't name *one*...although I have a particular spot in my heart for GNOMES by Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen, which I stumbled upon as a kid and I think sparked a lot of my fascination with fairies, art and anthropology.

6) In the end, would you like say some words to your fans from Romania?

Interview with Ruth Silver the author of Aberrant

1) How and why have you started to write? Were there something or someone that gave you an impulse?

I’ve been writing since I was about fifteen. I’ve always loved to write and to tell stories. Over the past few years, I’ve been reading more Young Adult novels and found myself driven towards writing for that genre.

2) Tell me something about your book Aberrant.

Aberrant is the story of a young girl, Olivia, that finds her existence illegal. Forced on the run from the oppressive government, she seeks out the rebel alliance in hope of survival.

3) While youre writing, have you discovered a character that you where developing feelings of love for? And was there a character that gave you headaches?

I find I have a special place in my heart for all the characters I’ve written – especially Joshua and Olivia.

4) How have you done your research for this novel?

There was a lot of scientific research involved in creating Mindonsiphan, as well as the world that Olivia is born into. Since Aberrant is a series, a lot of that research is focused more in the second and third novel as we uncover more answers.

5) Is there a book that inspired your writings?

I love The Hunger Games. It definitely inspired me to read a lot more Young Adult novels, which helped focus my writing towards the genre.

1) How and why have you started to write? Were there something or someone that gave you an impulse?

I was a reader first. I never thought about writing until I got older. I just knew I loved books and I loved to read them. But one day, I thought of an idea for a book and told my husband about it. He said, that's a great idea, you should try and write it. That book was not Pivot Point. But I did write it and finish it and I loved it so much that I kept writing.


2) Tell me something about you and your book Pivot Point.

Pivot Point is about a girl who when faced with a choice has the power to see two futures. So the book is essentially that: a choice, followed by the two paths she has to pick from. As for something about me....hmmm....well, I'm the mother of four--3 daughters and 1 son--and a very big dog.


3) While youre writing, have you discovered a character that you where developing feelings of love for? And was there a character that gave you headaches?

When I am writing, I feel like my characters are like my kids. I have to get inside their heads. I spend a lot of time with them. And all my characters at some point or another give me headaches (kind of like my real children). :) It usually comes from not knowing what they need to do next or trying to figure out how they would deal with a situation. We usually work it out and I love them again. My characters, that is. I always love my real kids (even when they give me headaches).


4) How have you done your research for this novel?

I spent some time researching technological advancements. And of course, I researched Texas. But since a lot of it came from my mind since it's really a fictional place, I just spent a lot of time thinking about my characters and what kind of place they would live in if they had advanced minds.


5) Is there a book that inspired your writings?

There isn't a specific book that inspired me as a writer. Like I said in question one, I love so many books. Books in general inspire me. As for Pivot Point, specifically, it was inspired by the movie Sliding Doors.


6) In the end, would you like say some words to your fans from Romania?

Yes! I'm so grateful for my fans all over the world. I love that books bring us together. Thank you so much for your support. It would be so amazing to visit Romania some day.

     Am intrat într-o stare de delir cum rar am mai trăit după ce termin o carte. Această stare de delir se datorează unui impact emoţional intens, unei răni adânci lăsate de o carte care m-a marcat profund. Această carte cum bine bănuiţi este „Soţia Tigrului” de Tea Obreht.

      Dacă rezumatul de pe spatele cărţii nu vă convinge să o citiţi, sper să vă conving eu pentru că este o carte care merită citită, trăită, simţită şi savurată până în cele mai mici detalii.

      Totul începe când Natalia Stefanovic merge în satul Brejevina unde o infecţie aparent banală ia cu asalt localitatea. Alături de prietena ei Zora încearcă să convingă sătenii că vaccinarea este cea mai bună soluţie pentru a combate boala. Ei bine ei nu cred aşa, iar fetele realizează cu stupoare că oamenii din sat cred în cu totul alte lucruri, că tradiţiile lor sunt de neclintit şi că indiferent de firea logică a lucrurilor, ei trebuie să urmeze spusele străbunilor.

      Pe de altă parte autoarea ne aduce în prim plan consecinţele războiului, distrugerea şi ignoranţa de care dau dovadă oamenii avizi de putere cărora nu le pasă că omoară nişte suflete nevinovate atâta timp cât orgoliul lor este satisfăcut.

      Bunicul fetei avea 9 ani, iar războiul era abia la început nimeni nu ştia că va aduce atâta durere şi suferinţă în viaţa oamenilor din Galina nimeni nu putea să prevadă dezastrele ce aveau să se petreacă acolo.

     Într-o zi ca oricare alta ceva se întâmplă, locuitorii satului sunt din ce în ce mai agitaţi, nimeni nu ştie cum să împrăştie mai repede vestea. Ce veste? Vestea despre diavolul ce sălăşluieşte în pădurea de lângă sat sau cum este numit chiar de către bunicul Nataliei în acele vremuri Shere Khan. După cum probabil ştiţi, Shere Khan este tigrul din Cartea Junglei, carte care va rămâne în amintirea fetei mereu, carte care va marca într-un fel destinul bunicului ei într-un mod cu totul special.

     Când bunicul fetei realizează că un tigru îşi face veacul prin pădurea de lângă sat, exaltarea sa este foarte îndreptăţită fiind fan declarat al acestor animale şi având o conexiune aparte şi inexplicabilă cu acestea, dar în special cu acest tigru.

     Nimeni nu ar şti să vă spună cât de misterioase sunt căile Domnului, cum destinul este o buclă încurcată, cum viaţa te loveşte şi te formează când îţi este cel mai bine. Asta au simţit-o pe pielea lor Luka măcelarul satului, Darisa Ursul, Amana, Kasim Suleimanovic spiţerul, Natalia şi chiar bunicul însuşi.

     Nu am menţionat-o pe Soţia Tigrului, pentru că nu sunt capabilă nici până acum să accept destinul acestei biete făpturi bătută de soartă într-un mod crud şi nemilos. Nu am înţeles de ce a trebuit să sufere atât, dar în cele din urmă am rămas împăcată ştiind că tigrul îşi face datoria faţă de soţia sa!

     Toţi oamenii menţionaţi mai sus au nişte nume care posibil că nu vă atragă atenţia într-un mod special, dar fiecare dintre aceste nume ascunde un om cu un suflet damnat. Un om care a suferit atât de mult încât atunci când a încercat să se ridice a realizat că aripile lui nu mai există, că este singur şi lipsit de apărare într-o lume sălbatică şi necunoscută. Fiecare dintre ei a trebuit să îndure şi să rabde până când au putut să se elibereze. Poate că destinul lor este tragic sau poate că nu. Eu una cred că au găsit ceea ce căutau şi sper ca şi voi să ajungeţi la aceeaşi concluzie.

“When your fight has purpose—to free you from something, to interfere on the behalf of an innocent—it has a hope of finality. When the fight is about unraveling—when it is about your name, the places to which your blood is anchored, the attachment of your name to some landmark or event—there is nothing but hate, and the long, slow progression of people who feed on it and are fed it, meticulously, by the ones who come before them. Then the fight is endless, and comes in waves and waves, but always retains its capacity to surprise those who hope against it.”

     Natalia află că bunicul ei moare în localitatea Zdrevkov care nu e foarte departe de Brejevina. Vestea nu o surprinde pentru că oricum bunicul ei era foarte bolnav, dar o deranjază un lucru. De ce nu a rămas acasă pentru a muri în tihnă alături de soţia, fiica şi nepoata sa de ce să moară într-un loc străin departe de ele?

     O întrebare simplă care îşi poate găsi răspuns în relatările bunicului despre omul fără de moarte şi soţia tigrului. Două poveşti cruciale marcante în destinul bunicului fetei. Aceasta speră să găsească răspunsurile amintindu-şi din nou aceste poveşti, cât şi caracterul bunicului ei care a marcat-o pe aceasta în copilărie, adolescenţă şi chiar şi în primii ani de rezidenţiat ai fetei.

     O carte sfâşietoare, sublimă şi profundă, care merită citită de oamenii care ştiu ce este aceea o lectură de calitate!

     Dacă fata va fi mulţumită de răspunsurile legate de moartea bunicului, dacă tigrul şi soţia sa vor fi împreună şi dacă omul fără de moarte reuşeşte să îi dovedească bunicului fetei că este nemuritor puteţi afla doar citind această operă impunătoare!

1) How and why have you started to write? Were there something or someone that gave you an impulse?

I wanted to read novels that related to people like me. I was in grad school and wanted something to read other than my boring textbooks. When I went in search for those types of books at my local bookstores, I literally couldn’t find anything. Searching online, I found one book about college students: Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire. I enjoyed that book so I looked for more, but couldn’t find any. That was when I realized books like this didn’t really exist. So I sat down, thought about what I was looking for in a book, and went to work. Three weeks later I had a novel. While I was in the process of publishing it, new adult literally evolved around me. Now, it’s everywhere, and I’m so grateful for that.

2) Tell me something about you and your book The Space Between.

Something about me, well, I enjoy extreme couponing when I’m not writing. I have a mini stock pile and everything. Something about The Space Between is it’s a story about differences, and how those can sometimes bring us closer together in the best possible ways!

3) While youre writing, have you discovered a character that you where developing feelings of love for? And was there a character that gave you headaches?

I actually got really close to Adele while writing for her. She’s not very nice to Lacey at first, but as I pulled apart the layers of her character I realized she has many of the same issues as her brother (Drake), but just deals with them in different ways. She’s very misunderstood, and I enjoyed getting to know her. There weren’t really any characters that gave me headaches, but Drake was definitely the hardest to write for. He’s an Asian adoptee into a rich, white family. I had to do lots of research to discover how he would deal with that and what he needed to be a more fulfilled individual.

4) How have you done your research for this novel?

I’m from the Midwest so the setting wasn’t too hard to research. For character research, I did a lot of article reading and studying. Mostly about international adoptions. I had to figure out what countries allowed Americans to adopt from them, and then I had to research adoptees themselves. I watched a lot of videos, read blogs, and stalked Facebook “like” pages about international adoptions. I really wanted to do Drake justice :)

5) Is there a book that inspired your writings?

There are no books that really inspired my writing, but my steamy writing style is influenced by some of my favorite authors. I enjoy Jennifer Echols, Simone Elkeles, Tiffany Ashley, and SC Stephens.

6) In the end, would you like say some words to your fans from Romania?

Hi, everyone, out there in Romania! I hope you enjoy The Space Between. It’s a novel that’s very close to my heart. Though it deals with some tough issues, it’s also very witty and full of steamy steam! I hope everyone can get something out of it :-)

Într-o şcoală londoneză a ajuns un joc pe computer: Erebos. Cine îl joacă nu mai scapă de el. Regulile jocului sunt deosebit de restrictive: oricine are doar o dată şansa de a juca Erebos. Cel care îl joacă nu are voie să vorbească cu nimeni despre el şi totdeauna trebuie să joace singur. Cine îi încalcă regulile ori nu îndeplineşte sarcinile primite este exclus şi nu mai poate relua jocul. Erebos combină ficţiunea cu realitatea în mod derutant: sarcinile primite în joc trebuie realizate în lumea reală.      De multe ori mă întreb cum oamenii pot fi atât de influenţabili, cum alţii îi pot manipula pe cei slabi sau puternici prin tactici nu tocmai ortodoxe, iar acele persoane să nu riposteze să execute ordinele întocmai ca şi cum ar fi sub un fel de vrajă! Cum pot exista astfel de persoane? Manipulatorii şi supuşii sunt un lucru comun în zilele noastre pentru că, chiar dacă nu vrem să recunoaştem asta toţi ne manipulăm uni pe alţi din diverse motive. Ideea e că de cele mai multe ori motivele noastre pot fi întemeiate şi putem manipula persoana respectivă doar pentru că ea ne lasă să facem asta. Dar ce se întâmplă când supuşii nu-şi dau seama că sunt manipulaţi că nimic nu e real, că lucrurile, pe care urmează să le săvârşească sunt abominabile.

Un mic avertisment:

     Eram sigură că veţi merge mai departe, exact asta a făcut şi Nick Dunmore într-o zi aparent banală, din pură curiozitate s-a decis să meargă mai departe să nu se oprească să vadă ce-i rezervă universul Erebos.

     Vreţi să ştiţi ce a întâlnit? Ei bine nu o să vă divulg nimic pentru că una dintre regulile jocului este să nu vorbeşti despre conţinutul său aşa că voi proceda ca atare.

     Pot să vă mărturisesc că odată intraţi în lumea magică a jocului trebuie să îl urmaţi pe Nick la fiecare pas, de fapt o să fiţi Nick sau mă rog, avatarul său în joc.

      De la prima pagină intriga devine captivantă, misterul -format în jurul acestui DVD interesant pe care se zvoneşte că ar exista un joc- este incitant. Îmi doream atât de mult ca Nick să obţină o copie şi spre marea mea încântare reuşeşte. Odată ajuns acasă ce credeţi că face tânărul nostru?

se produce o disonanţă

     Aţi ghicit! Instalează jocul curiozitatea lui şi a mea se întreceau amândouă pe terenul de sport neştiind care ajungea la finish mai repede.

     Avatarul său este ok mă rog aş fi preferat să aleagă altceva, dar fie cum vrea el. Câteva exemple ar fi vârcolac, vampir, pitic, barbar, om, om-pisică, elf negru ş.a.m.d

     Voi ce credeţi că a ales? Eu personal aş fi ales vampirul sau omul pisică ar fi fost interesant.

     Mai departe îşi alege numele, armele şi e gata de luptă ce se întâmplă în interiorul jocului nu o să vă spun mai bine aflaţi singuri nu aş vrea să vă stric distracţia. În schimb o să vorbesc despre ce se întâmplă în afara lui.

     O mulţime de elevi sunt cuprinşi de febra acestui joc toţi pasionaţi de cucerirea puterii cât mai rapide. Pentru asta ei au de îndeplinit nişte sarcini mai bizare. Să facă o poză aici să lase o cutie acolo să bage un flacon cu pastile într-un tomberon, să urmărească pe cineva, lucruri minore aţi crede, dar deloc inofensive. Toate acestea fac parte dintr-un plan al naibi de bine pus la punc de o minte foarte dibace şi vicleană.

     Vă asigur că o să trăiţi Erebos şi alături de Nick aventura voastră o să fie foarte palpitantă. Presărat de încercări care mai de care mai dificile. Va reuşi eroul nostru să cucerească mult râvnitul loc în Cercul Interior?

     Cine ştie, dar un lucru e sigur. Erebos îşi tratează duşmanii ca pe duşmani să nu spuneţi că nu v-am avertizat!

     Fie că o urâţi sau iubiţi cu siguranţă nu veţi rămâne indiferenţi!

Recenzie: Theodore Boone Acuzatul de John Grisham

     În vreme ce tot oraşul Strattenberg aşteaptă noul proces al suspectului de crimă Pete Duffy, puştiul avocat începe să aibă probleme. A avut loc un jaf, iar Theo e acuzat. Reputaţia lui e în pericol, dovezile se strâng împotriva lui, aşa că puştiul va face tot ce îi stă în putinţă să îşi demonstreze nevinovăţia, chiar dacă asta înseamnă să încalce unele reguli. Debordând de intriga şi suspansul care au făcut din John Grisham cel mai bine vândut autor la nivel internaţional şi maestrul indiscutabil al thrillerului juridic, Theodore Boone îi va ţine pe cititori cu sufletul la gură şi îi va face să întoarcă pagină după pagină.

     Nu sunt o mare fană a cărţilor mystery, dar Theodore Boone m-a cucerit din prima. La început nu ştiam la ce să mă aştept, poate la un poliţist chipeş care pune capăt crimelor datorită iscusinţei lui sau la un judecător nemilos, care dă verdicte usturătoare fără să clipească. Ei bine nici una nici alta şi când am aflat cine este Theo am rămas foarte şoctă!

     Theodore Boone este un puşti de 13 ani elev în clasa a 8-a la Şcoala Centrală din Strattenburg şi un mare pasionat de legi. Familia lui are o firmă de avocatură Boone & Boone, dar din păcate unchiul lui a fost obligat să-şi dea demisia datorită unor greşeli iremediabile.

   Jumătate băiat, jumătate avocat acest puşti luptă până la capăt pentru dreptate şi adoră să participe la procese. Noul proces la care a avut privilegiul să participe a fost cel al lui Pete Duffy, care este acuzat de uciderea soţiei sale. Prima dată chiar am crezut că se va vorbi numai despre asta, dat fiind faptul că Pete a decis să fenteze norocul avut la primul proces, care s-a întrerupt din cauza unei erori judiciare şi a decis să fugă. Din păcate m-am înşelat complet!

     Am fost aruncată alături de Theo într-un hău plin de intrigi şi ostilitate, nu ştiam încotro să privesc pentru că totul părea ireal. Acuzaţiile se revărsau ca apa îngheţată, iar eu nu ştiam ce să mai cred.

     La scurt timp după dispariţia lui Pete, Theo observă că vestiarul său fusese spart şi câteva lucruri lipseau. Cel mai important lucru era o şapcă, cu echipa sa preferată. Şocat de cele întâmplate acesta decide să nu spună nimic până când nu găsea un suspect. Dorind să plece acasă pe bicicletă, observă că unul dintre cauciucuri este tăiat. Îl duce la reparat, iar mecanicul îi confirmă că este vorba despre o tăietură de cuţit. Un gând nefast încolţeşte în mintea tînărului. Dacă cel care i-a vandalizat vestiarul este aceeaşi persoană care i-a tăiat cauciucul? Înseamă că are de-a face cu cineva care l-ar putea ataca în orice moment, cu cineva înarmat şi pus pe harţă.

     Nu trece mul timp şi Theo se trezeşte în mijlocul unui scandal mostru, despre un jaf petrecut la un magazin de calculatore petrecut marţi seară, când Theo se întorcea spre casă. La locul faptei este găsită şapca sa preferată, iar în vestiarul să sunt găsite 3 tablete care fuseseră furate din magazin. Toate lucrurile par să-l indice pe Theo, dar acesta este convins că este o înscenare, la fel este şi unchiul său Ike, care nu se va da în lături de la nimic când vine vorba de nepotul său.

     Într-o lume, în care infractorii nu ţin cont de mustrările de conştiinţă, Theo trebuie să-şi facă dreptate, dar cum poate un puşti de 13 ani să facă faţă avalanşei de bîrfe şi acuzaţii care nu mai contenesc? Până şi părinţii săi încep să se îndoiască de tot, dar sunt decişi să-şi apere băiatul indiferent de consecinţe.

     O carte extraordinară, care merit citită şi savurată într-un moment de stres pentru că nu veţi regreta această carte pompează adrenalină pură în corpul vostru, veţi fi în alertă până la sfârşit alături de Theo.

Recenzie: Cronica Focului de John Stephens

KATE: Cea mare. Singura care îşi aminteşte de părinţi. A promis să-şi protejeze fratele şi sora până când se întorc. MICHAEL: Iubeşte cărţile, e slăbuţ, terorizat de cei mari la orfelinat (cumva, ochelarii lui sfârşesc mereu în toaletă). Îi plac mult poveştile cu magie, în special cele care au şi pitici. EMMA: Cea mai mică şi mai războinică. Devotată surorii şi fratelui ei. Crede că Michael e un ciudat fără speranţă. Dar va lua la pumni pe oricine altcineva gândeşte la fel. I-a aruncat în secret lui Michael ochelarii în toaletă. De două ori. Împreună vor învăţa că: 1.,,Magia e reală. 2.,,Emma cunoaşte expresia "te rog". 3.,,Doar ei pot salva lumea.

     Nu am cuvinte….pur şi simplu nu mai am cuvinte şi lacrimi pentru că al doilea volum m-a dat complet peste cap. Dacă primul volum m-a făcut să sar în sus de fericire şi să mă bucur alături de protagonişti al doilea mi-a lăsat ochii în lacrimi şi inima cât un purice neştiind ce avea să urmeze.

     După cum spune profeţia cei trei copii Kate, Michael şi Emma trebuie să reunească cele trei cărţi, numite
Cărţile Începutului. Prima carte, Cartea Timpului sau Atlasul a ales-o pe Kate, a doua carte Cartea Vieţii sau Cronica l-a ales pe Michael, iar ultima carte, Cartea Morţii îi va reveni Emmei.

     După o luptă extraordinară datorată curajului acestor copii pentru a salva alţi copii, dar pentru asta copii au trebuit să se întoarcă în timp, mai exact cu 15 ani pentru a salva Cambridge Falls şi pe locuitorii săi. Cei trei reuşesc cu greu să facă asta, iar când Kate este obligată de către contesă să-şi folosească puterile pentru a-i aduce Atlasul, fata se supune, dar doctorul Pym îl invocă pe stăpunul contesei Magnus cel Teribil, care o distruge pe aceasta şi dispare în neant, dar nu înainte să o avertizeze pe fată că se va întoarce după ea.

     Trimişi înapoi la Casa de copii Edgar Allan Poe, singura cale de a comunica, cu vrăjitor este lăsând scrisori într-un copac în speranţa că acesta le primeşte şi chiar aşa se întâmplă spre norocul acestora. Nu trece mult timp, de la ultima viziune a lui Kate despre un bărbat atroce care îi vânează că o ceată de strigoi vin după ei. Din păcate una dintre creaturi o prinde pe Kate, iar aceasta pentru a-şi proteja fraţii se hotărăşte să călătorească în timp, pentru a scăpa de creatură.

     Emma şi Michael sunt salvaţi de vrăjitor, care ajunge fix la ţanc. Acesta îi duce pe copii în Italia unde află de la un vechi prieten că unul dintre gardienii, care a ascuns cronica a fugit din ascunzătoare şi s-a îmbolnăvit, dar înainte să moară se spune că ar fi lăsat o hartă către Cronică.

“Dragons are notable for their lust for gold, not a bad quality taken in moderation. 

Dragons are immune to fire, obviously. All dragons are terrifically vain, indeed as to who is more vain, a dragon or an elf, I would not want to be the one to decide. Hint: an elf. A dragon should never be engaged in conversation as they are inveterate liars and tricksters, though if you're actually talking to a dragon, you're pretty much toast anyway. Never, ever call a dragon a worm, no matter how much they're asking for it.”

     Cei trei găsesc mormântul gardianului, iar Michael rezolvă ghicitoarea, conectându-se cu Cronica. Cei trei fuseseră urmăriţi de Rourke, mâna dreaptă a lui Magnus, vrăjitorul rămâne în urmă pentru a le da timp copiilor să scape. Aceştia sunt salvaţi de Gabriel prietenul Emmei şi un războinic fantastic. El se bazează pe Michael pentru a-i ghida în aventura lor în căutarea Cronicii. Ajungând în Antarctica cei doi se lasă ghidaţi de băiat şi ajung la o fortăreaţă unde întâlnesc un gardian - ultimul gardian din ordin- care le povesteşte cum a salvat Cronica şi a apărat-o secole de-a rândul. Din păcate Emma fusese îngheţată de către acesta pentru că era mult prea violentă după spusele lui. Pentru a o aduce la viaţă Michael trebuie să facă dragonul - păzitorul Cronicii - să-i aducă, cartea pentru a o trezi pe Emma. Din păcate surpriza tânărului este pe măsura aşteptărilor.

      Cât despre Kate, ea ajunge în 1889 chiar cu două zile înainte de Separare. Aici îl întâlneşte pe Rafe un băiat tulburător, care o salvează de nişte diavoli, care vroiau să o răpească. El o duce la biserica unde locuia atât el cât şi alte zeci de copiii salvaţi de doamna Burke. Dar asta nu e tot! Copii aceştia sunt foarte speciali, sunt magici. Interesant nu? Ei bine aparent înainte de Separare oamenii îi foloseau pentru fabricarea hainelor magice şi pe lângă asta îi înfometau şi băteau, dar pentru asta există o doamnă Burke cu un suflet extraordinar, care a salvat aceşti copiii.

     Tulburătorul băiat care i-a invadat mintea lui Kate este periculos, într-un mod atât de sălbatic încât o înfioară şi nu într-un mod plăcut. Oricât ar încerca fata să se ţină departe de el nu reuşeşte. Îşi doreşte să-l ajute, să-i vindece rănile adânci din inimă, dar destinul lui este pătat. Acesta trebuie să aleagă, iar fata trebuie să se întoarcă la fraţii ei, dar cum? Era blocată în 1889 fără atlas, fără bani, fără nimic. Singura şansă a ei era să găsească un vrăjitor puternic, care să o ajute.

     Din păcate aceasta îl întâlneşte pe faimosul Magnus cel Teribil şi va afla lucruri, pe care mai bine nu le afla, care mai bine nu îi pătau inima cu răni deschise, care sângerau din ce în ce mai tare. Oare de câtă suferinţă este capabil un om pentru cei dragi? Dar pentru familie? Oamenii se schimbă, dar dacă au de ales şi ceva se schimbă astfel încât alegerea lor să nu mai depindă de ei, să fie nevoiţi să o facă. Opţiunea cea mai înfricoşătoare din lume încolţeşte în mintea fetei, dar nu poate să o facă nu are cum, nu e capabilă să accepte asta deocamdată.

     Relaţia lui Kate cu fraţii ei nu conteneşte să mă impresioneze până la lacrimi, bunătatea lor şi curajul sunt două atuuri care mă fac să mă înclin în faţa lor. Nu am mai citit şi nici simţit o legătură atât de puternică între personaje, atât de bine realizată. M-am bucurat alături de ei, am plâns, panicat, enervat şi resemnat alături de ei.

     Finalul a fost sfâşietor am plâns şi iar am plâns pentru că nu ştiam ce altceva să fac sinceră să fiu. M-am lăsat în voia lacrimilor, până când acestea au dispărut definitiv.

     Dacă Michael va reuşi să facă dragonul să-l asculte, dacă Kate va reuşi să se întoarcă înapoi, iar dacă Rafe va face alegerea corectă nu vă pot spune. Citiţi şi veţi afla!

Recenzie: Destine la limită de Katie McGarry

ATÂT DE DIFERIȚI UNUL FAȚĂ DE CELĂLALT… ŞI TOTUŞI, ATÂT DE POTRIVIŢI.

Nimeni nu ştie ce s-a întâmplat în seara în care Echo Emerson s-a transformat, dintr-o fată populară, cu un iubit sportiv, râvnit de multe dintre colegele ei, în bârfita paria cu cicatrice „monstruoase” pe braţe. Nici măcar Echo nu-şi poate aminti întregul adevăr despre seara aceea oribilă. Tot ceea ce ştie este că vrea ca totul să revină la normal.

Dar când Noah Hutchins, singuraticul teribil de sexy, îmbrăcat cu geaca lui neagră din piele, obişnuit să se folosească de fete, pătrunde exploziv în viaţa ei, cu o atitudine de dur, însă şi cu o surprinzătoare capacitate de înţelegere, lumea lui Echo se schimbă într-un fel pe care ea nu şi l-ar fi putut închipui vreodată. Normal ar fi ca ei doi să nu aibă nimic în comun. Iar cu secretele apăsătoare ale fiecăruia, să fie împreună pare, în mare măsură, imposibil.

Numai că, la răscrucea destinelor lor, normalitatea capătă alte valenţe, şi nebuneasca atracţie dintre ei refuză să dispară. Iar Echo se vede nevoită să se întrebe până unde ar putea forţa limitele, şi cât ar fi dispusă să rişte pentru singurul băiat capabil s-o înveţe cum să iubească din nou.

“ Te iubesc îndeajuns încât să nu te pun să alegi. ”

La început, am fost foarte sceptică în legătură cu această carte. Mă simţeam de parcă nu ar fi normal să o citesc datorită rănilor lui Echo, pe care le luam prea în serios. Percepeam aceste răni ca unele sufleteşti, dar şi fizice de asemenea!

Pot afirma că mă simţeam ca Echo, înainte să citesc cartea, singura diferenţă era că eu îmi purtam luptele în interior şi nu la exterior.

Am iubit cartea în special pentru lectura uşoară, pe care am savurat-o în câteva ore. Un alt motiv, pentru care mi-a plăcut cartea ar fi acela că Echo mi-a amintit cum să fiu puternică din nou, cum să mă ridic şi să fiu mândră de mine indiferent de situaţie. Mi-a plăcut pentru că vedeam în Noah, acea parte care mie îmi lipsea.

Cumva am fost atât de captivată de poveste încât am uitat să-i răspund mamei pentru a o ajuta, sau pentru a mă deranja să beau sau să mănânc ceva. Am devenit oarecum dependent şi asta chiar m-a fascinate, pentru că însemna că în sfârşit mă pot pierde cu totul atât de uşor şi repede în cartea respectivă.

Evoluţia personajelor m-a fascinat în special când Echo reuşea să răzbească indiferent de obstacolele pe care le întâlnea. Ea nu se dădea bătută şi reuşea întotdeauna să evolueze, să se impună.

Noah a fost genul tipic de băiat: minunat, minunat, şi….oh în caz că nu am menţionat minunat? Finalul mi-a făcut pielea de găină şi inima o luase razna până am reuşit să îmi stăpânesc entuziasmul. A fost fantastic!

Îţi recomand această carte ţie, dar şi oricărui cititor de cărţi romantic, oricui doreşte să descopere un alt nivel mai profund al vieţii, cuiva care este interesat de o lectură uşoară, tuturor celor care vor şti să zâmbească la sfârşit!
