Vampire Academy (2014)
Foarte mulţi probabil că aţi aflat despre ecranizarea primului volum din seria Academia Vampirilor şi anume Blood Sisters. Din păcate nu am citit seria aşa că nu sunt în măsură să-mi dau cu părerea, dar am încredere în gusturile voastre. Sunteţi de acord cu personajele? Aţi schimba pe cineva? Dacă da de ce?

Recenzie: Secretele creierului uman de Sandra Aamodt şi Sam Wang
Care sunt secretele acestei mașinării uluitor de complexe? Ce rol are fiecare parte a creierului, de la cortexul prefrontal la amigdală? Sandra Aamodt și Sam Wang, renumiți specialiști în neuroștiință, ne dezvăluie mecanismele, dar și trucurile care ajută creierul să lucreze eficient. Autorii demontează câteva dintre miturile des întâlnite, de exemplu faptul că folosim doar 10% din creier sau că bebelușii care ascultă Mozart devin mai inteligenți.
A ne cunoaște mai bine creierul este nu numai amuzant, ci și util. Vom afla cum putem depăși efectele decalajului de fus orar, cum să ne antrenăm voința, cum să tratăm o fobie sau să ne menținem creierul în formă. Părerea mea (Simona): Cine ar fi crezut că cea mai complex maşinărie din lume poate fi descrisă în cel mai mic detaliu? Nici eu nu aş fi crezut asta, dar am găsit această carte intitulată „Secretele creierului uman” şi m-am gândit să-i dau o şansă.
De îndată ce începi să citeşti nu o să mai observi ce se întâmplă în jurul tău. Parcă într-un fel creierul tău realizează că este vorba despre el şi ar vrea ca tu sa-l descoperi şi să-l înţelegi. Limbajul nu este foarte uşor, au fost momente în care m-am întors de două ori ca să mai citesc o dată pasajul respectiv pentru a înţeleg mai bine.
Cartea în sine ne poartă în lumea personajului principal (creierul) care ne ajută să ne controlăm emoţiile şi să luăm cele mai bune decizii.
Axonii şi dendritele sunt principalii responsabili pentru activitatea sa incredibilă. Prelungiri cu impulsuri electrice care se transmit de la o celulă la alta cu scopul de a face eroul să iasă biruitor. Poate această denumire vă amuză, dar creierul poate fi considerat un erou. De câte ori aţi reuşit să vă amintiţi răspunsurile la un test în ultimul moment sau de câte ori aţi reuşit să aduceţi argumente incontestabile într-o discuţie importantă? Cine credeţi că vă ajută să faceţi toate aceste lucruri? Creierul singurul şi unicul nostru aliat şi duşman în acelaşi timp. Aliat pentru că ne ajută să minimalizăm dezamăgirile pe plan profesional şi sentimental, dar duşman pentru că tot el este cel care ne provoacă aceste dezamăgiri nevoit fiind de situaţiile în care este pus de noi.
Toată lumea încearcă să definească iubirea, dar ce ai zice dacă ţi-aş spune că aceasta are o explicaţie ştiinţifică? Ai fi surpins nu-i aşa?
Cercetătorii consideră că doi neurotransmiţători numiţi oxitocina şi arginin-vasopresina (AVP) sunt cei responsabili pentru producerea dragostei. Nucleul accumbus este responsabilul care ne ajută să alegem partenerul potrivit. Ştiaţi că şoarecii de preierie rămân toată viaţa împreună? Şi când unul dintre parteneri moare celălalt alege să rămână singur.
De foarte multe ori luarea unei decizii importante pare imposibilă în anumite cazuri. Din păcate creierul nostru are nevoie de noi pentru alegerile dificile. Noi trebuie să-i aducem argumente pro şi contra pentru ca el să ajungă la un rezultat.
Oamenii de ştiinţă au descoperit că recompensele imediate ne ajută să luăm decizii imediate. Astfel persoanele delăsătoare care preferă să primească recompensa imediat în loc să aştepte după ea sunt mult mai slabe şi nerăbdătoare decât persoanele care aşteaptă pentru lucrul dorit.
El ne ajută de asemenea să ducem la bun sfârşit sarcinile impuse ca să putem ajunge acolo unde ne dorim.
Recomand această carte celor care îşi doresc să afle mai multe lucruri despre bijuteria complexă care nu doarme niciodată.

Kara Magari squinted back up the path she’d just climbed. The gazebo’s roof peeked through the trees, evidence of where she’d been only ten minutes before. Not bad. With her finger in the air, she traced the way she’d taken, starting at the lichgate and going down over each step in her head. Her finger hovered and came to a stop, though, when she examined the base of the hill.
Built into the rock was a marble door, shrouded with overhanging roots and dangling moss that clung to its frame like bangs. She rubbed her eyes, but the closed entryway was still there when she opened them again.
She brushed her hand along the door’s smooth stone. It was simple, with only a round stone knob and a small emblem carved into the rock at eye level. The symbol looked something like a four-leaf clover made out of crescent moons.
Kara’s fingers itched on the handle, but she hesitated.
The ground trembled with a sudden force that knocked her against the cliff. The breeze stopped, dissolving with a hiss into the hot summer sky. She scanned the valley. Several somethings cracked in the ground under her feet.
Thunder rumbled overhead. A dark cloud churned in the sky, and her heart fell into her stomach; there hadn’t even been a single fluffy cloud up there ten minutes ago.
A blinding bolt of moss-colored lightning flashed, striking the ground nearby. The hairs on her arms stood on end. Heat coursed through her calves, and she caught her breath. Her ears rang.
Wait. Was that lightning green?
The cliff trembled as a boom shattered the air. It began to rain. The heavy drops pelted her skin and clung to her hair as another rumble coursed along the far edge of the valley. She needed shelter, and the last place she would go in a lightning storm was up a hill.
She turned back and twisted the door’s handle, sighing with relief as it opened—unlocked. Still, as wet as it was outside and as much as she wanted a safe place to wait out the rain, she lingered on the threshold to examine the room.
Mud covered everything from the floor to the ceiling. Since there weren’t any supports to hold the roof, she couldn’t figure out how the ten-by-ten dirt shelter hadn’t caved in yet. The air within was heavy, moist with the rot of dead leaves, and her only guiding light streamed in from behind her. Roots dangled from the ceiling like stalactites reaching for the floor. The wind picked up, howling as it pelted rain against her back.
Kara tested the ground with her sneaker. The dirt floor supported her weight, so she tip-toed into the room and left the door open. Rain fell in lingering drops on the threshold before it disappeared into the growing pools of mud. She stuck her hands in her pockets and watched the raging storm outside.
A flash of dark brown blurred past her.
She jumped. A tan flicker snaked along the roof, and clumps of soil fell in sheets. She glared at the ceiling, holding her breath as the settling dust rained onto her shoes.
It had almost looked like a root moving, but that—that was crazy.
Another streak of motion raced down the opposite wall. It passed through a shaft of light, and Kara saw its pointed, wooden tip. Tiny veins sprouted from it like hairs, digging into the dirt so that it could travel.
It was a root moving.
A second spiny vine shot up from the floor and wrapped itself around her leg. It pulled. She tripped, falling into the first root as it snaked along the far wall. Dirt poured over her head, blinding her. The scent of decaying bark made her cough. The root tugged again, and she was yanked onto her hands and knees. It dragged her towards the center of the room. She reached for the knife strapped to her free ankle, the one Mom had—no! She couldn’t think of Mom. Not now.
A third root wrapped around her waist, and another grabbed her hand as she reached for the blade. The roots flipped her onto her back. With a bang, the door snapped shut. Her stomach churned. The floor disappeared. She fell, and the roots let go.

The next morning Victoria was surprised to find it drizzling outside. She snuggled further under the quilt but when she reached over for Levi, he wasn’t there. She groggily opened her eyes and started to sit up looking for him, but he wasn’t inside the small cabin.Wrapping the quilt around her body she shuffled over to the window to look out and see Levi rearranging some things in the truck. She opened it slightly and called out to him, “Morning, did you have breakfast yet?”He waved back at her, there was mud down his jeans but he looked relaxed and almost cheerful. “No not yet. I’m trying to get down to the main house to get us some, it was included with our stay. God damn truck is stuck in the mud.”
Victoria sighed deeply, so much for getting to see the small town that was close by. “Well I packed some snacks.”He smiled back at her and shrugged his shoulders and walked into the cabin taking off his muddy boots upon arrival. He walked over to Victoria and delivered a light kiss on the cheek, “How did I get so lucky?”She smiled back at him devilishly, “Can’t tell ya. So what’s the grand plan for today vacation planner?”He laughed at her teasing, “You’ll just have to wait and see won’t you?”She set her lips into a thin line, Victoria didn’t like surprises very much.“Don’t worry about it. Just eat your granola bar.”After they ate and Victoria had gotten dressed Levi led her to the back of the cabin to a small trail. “I think you’re really going to enjoy this.”They walked through the cool spring air while trees shed sprinkles on them. They walked in silence, hand-in-hand over small rocks and twigs, through the mud until Victoria finally heard rushing water. “Is that a waterfall?”Levi smiled at her. “Nope. I did you one better.”As they continued to walk they came upon a clearing with a small hot spring receded into the ground. There were rocks set up around it clearly put there by nature while others had been moved by people to keep clothes dry and supplies away from the steam. Victoria smiled and pushed Levi playfully. “You know I didn’t bring a bathing suit!”Levi kissed her on the lips pushing his body against hers, “Of course I know that.” He quickly began to strip, taking his hoodie and shirt off in a flash. Victoria watched with interested eyes as he turned to her, his tanned muscles rippling beneath the light rain. He walked over to her and wrapped his hands around her body to bring her closer. “You’re going to join me, right?” He whispered hotly in her ear.

I have so much to say abouth this wonderful book.
First of all, if you want to know more about the connection between Jeremy and Cristy you should read The Watched series,but just so you know, this book has nothing to do with the previous series.
Now, let's begin...
Honestly, this is the first book that I read who contains spies.
I never imagined that I get to read such a book (no supernatural being!)
I say that as a good thing. :)
I kept thinking "I shouldn't be loving this book so much" but yet I did, and couldn't put it down.

Maybe isn' the best writing and Cristyne actions are not exactly like the face of a true spy, but yet I was drawn in-intensely!
I have to admit, I didn't trust anyone in this book. I kept thinking, "Oh, they must be involved somehow..." So that made it fun.
The characters are really interesting.
But, if I thing better, they're need to be exciting otherwise I would not have read it!

ok, let's go back to review...
Christy, the real name of the character and her name Misha undercover, is a delightful person who knows how to deal and who manages to escape, finally, of any problem, because, after all, that's her job, right?
It's a girl who has a lot of courage and brains, who makes decisions, extremely good, in few seconds!!!
I like it :)
All I can say about the other characters is that they don't tend to stay too much on pages, Christy ,managed to meet different people in very short time.
Most of all, I liked the idea of the story.
How she need do get kidnapped and how fret to prove the world but especially Jeremy that is a good agent.
Who know?
Perhaps isn't just a beautiful stories,maybe she have a grain of truth...
