Review: Bad Taste in Men (Clover Park #3) by Kylie Gilmore

Review: Bad Taste in Men (Clover Park #3) by Kylie Gilmore

Rachel Miller knows opening a café with coffee and pastries will make her struggling bookstore the place to hang out. But when the bank turns her down and her best friend Shane steps in, she vows business will never ruin their friendship.
Gourmet ice-cream maker Shane O’Hare knows food, not women. To sweep Rachel off her feet, he secretly sells his beloved ’67 Shelby Mustang and becomes a partner in her café. And then she sets him up with a friend.
As they build the café together, and Rachel learns what Shane has sacrificed for her, she finds herself falling for him. Now way too much is riding on the success of this business venture—her career, her best friend, and her heart.

My thoughts (Roxana):

Well,well,well... I can't believe that I finally review Shane's story....after Ryan (my review is here)  and Travis, we finally can hear Shane's voice, even more so because he's so shy and quiet, and sweet....
Like I said, Shane is very different from his brothers, because while he's introvertit, Travis is hotness incarnated, he's also a little crazy, on the other hand, Ryan is the mature and serious one, so I was a little anxious about his character, and I'll admit  I had my doubts about his alpha side, but in the same time I was anxious to find out his story and it was a mind-blowing, genious reading, guys!

Seriously, run, don't walk to the first store you find and get your copy right freaking now!

From the first moment when Shane appears in our novel, you will not be able to help but want him to find a happy ending, and this have been my wish since The Opposite of Wild!

I must admit that I've always had a soft spot for the nerdy type, with a silent and sexy attitude ...  there is just something incredibly attractive about a man who does not know his true value, but manages to be always a support for the lady he loves , but fails to be brave and ask her on a date ...

And Shane fits in this pattern, and I was sure that we will have a similar situation! However, I was wrong and I'm glad this happened, otherwise I wouldn't have realized  just how attractive can Shane really be and, certainly, we don't have to talk about his potential as a future book boyfriend, right ladies?

But to start at the beginning, now the whole O'Hare family is happy because their members married their soul mates, and the young newlyweds, like Travis and Daisy are still celebrating this happy ending, which delighted our souls as readers because we are addicted to all happy endings things alike, such as the hilarious and sexy and heart-warming as in Daisy Does it All. So throughout this happy painting where does it fit our poor boy, Shane? Would he find his happy ending with the girl who stole his heart?

Well, you don't really think that Kylie Gilmore will disappoint our expectations, right?

Although it is obvious that Shane is more alone than before, he did not let this situation to make him bitter and he's trying to see the positive side of it... like the little fact that Rachel is also alone and after a small accident, in which Shane becomes her knight in shiny armor, he invites her out and he hopes she will accept this invitation, even more so because he does not fall into the category of her usual potential boyfriends slash losers.

Unfortunately for him, even though Rachel finds him very attractive and likes his new look, and with all the sparks that are flying between those two... he is also the most inappropriate boyfriend material for one little simple reason ...  she would never do something to jeopardize their friendship or the friendship with the rest of the gang.

I must admit I understand her refusal to give in her attraction for Shane when it could destroy the serenity, even more so considering all the history of her disastrous relationships, and I'm sure that I would've taken the same decision-  hoes before bros and all that jazz- however, deep in my soul, I hoped she will give in  the irresistible pull between the two of them and she would make our boy very happy, at least for a night!

But, she's so stuborn and the consequences of such a failure still hangs over her head, and Rachel being the good girl she is can't afford losing Shane's support, so she's running from him, from her feelings- I'm not going to lie you, my friend, she's a little frustrating, but with her record, it doesn't really come as a surprise...

Shane, on the other hand- stole my heart, since from the first book in this series, but know... oh boy! Tell me what boy or man would he give up at his beloved ’67 Shelby Mustang, just to help a girl who has already turned him down flat so many times? Shane, that's who! Even more so, he doesn't give up and tries again, and again. And little by little he gets under her skin....

Final Decision- If you want a delightful, witty, beautiful love story that will make you swoon and to wake your dreams about the old-fashioned gentlemen, then you have to read this book... and remember, sometimes true love can shake you against your better judgement!

My rating: 5/5.

Excerpt:

Shane pulled into the small parking lot behind her store. Her apartment was on the second floor. He fetched her crutches from the back seat and walked around to open her car door. She tucked the crutches under her arms and made her way awkwardly to the rear entrance.
“Thanks again,” she told him. “I got it from here.”
He exhaled sharply. “Gimme the keys. I’m not leaving you.”
She pulled her keys from her purse. “I’m fine. You’ve done your part. Thank you. Good night.”
He snatched the keys from her, unlocked the door, and slipped a crutch out from under her arm, replacing it with his body. His voice rumbled low in her ear. “Relax.”
She suppressed a shiver. That would’ve happened with anyone speaking so close to her. Sound waves and physics and neurological stuff. She glanced at him, so close. His eyes were blue with flecks of gold. She’d never noticed the gold flecks before. Her eyes widened as he leaned the other crutch against the building and scooped her up in his arms.
“Careful of my ankle!” she screeched.
He grunted, pushed open the door, and carried her upstairs to her apartment. If her pulse was racing, it was only because of the risk of falling down an entire flight of stairs. He carried her in and set her down gently on the bed.
“Really, Shane, there are easier ways to get me into bed.”
His voice went low and husky. “When I want to get you into bed, you’ll know it.”
Her face flushed. She opened her mouth for a snappy retort, but nothing came out. Was he coming on to her or insulting her?
He chuckled. “I’ll bring your crutches.”
He left, and she propped up the pillows behind her so she could sit up in bed. He returned and placed the crutches next to her bed.
“I’ll take the sofa,” Shane said, “so I can carry you downstairs again in the morning.”
“That’s ridiculous. I’ve got crutches. I can do it.”
“If you don’t want me to stay, then call me when you wake up and I’ll come over. I’m not letting you tumble down those stairs.”
“You’re not sleeping on my sofa.”
“Then call me.”
“Sure,” she said just to get rid of him.
His eyes narrowed. “I’ll be on the sofa.”
“No!” She thought fast. How to get him out of her hair? “Sleep in my bed instead,” she offered, lifting the covers.
His eyes lit up. “I thought you’d never ask.”
And to her absolute shock, he scooted in next to her.

Review The Opposite of Wild (Park Series#1) by Kylie Gilmore

The Opposite of Wild
Book One Clover Park Series

By: Kylie Gilmore
Released Jan 16th, 2014

Blurb

Unleash the wild woman…?

Ex-cop Ryan O'Hare takes one look at buttoned-up control freak Liz Garner and just itches to loosen the woman up. Not that he’s into her. Because a woman like that comes with way too many expectations. Not to mention, she practically works for him, and he didn’t hire Liz to watch after his beloved Harley-stealing Gran so he could turn Liz loose in his bed. Still, there’s something about her, a hidden wild side, that makes him wonder what it would take.

Liz must be crazy to work for the insensitive, arrogant, horribly…hot man she's avoided for years. Unfortunately, she needs the money and Ryan's grandmother needs a keeper. (Midnight tango lessons and ziplines with Gran, anyone?) Ryan's rare smile and swaggering confidence have Liz torn between throwing her favorite pinot grigio at his head or throwing herself at him. Can this control freak find a way to let loose with the tough, no-strings guy who once broke her heart?

Review:

So... I tried to think how to start this review, but even if we have Ryan in the first scene, what I really liked in the first place and made me extremely curious was Ryan's Grandma, she's a 'little' old, but don't let her hear you  saying it, she'll kill you! I'm joking, people! Ryan's Gran or Maggie is a really interesting character- seriously she was like the cherry on top of the wedding cake, but let's not going there ... yet!
The story presents Ryan, ex-cop, now private investigator who works for rich woman and cheating husbands, well not exactly  for the cheating spouses, but you got my drift, so on day he's receiving an call from his brother, Travis about Gran and how she was stealing his beloved Harvey and now, because life's a bitch, she's implicated in an accident, but after the other accident (yes, yes, another one), an accident that changed her life and the manner she's living it. Now, she wants to live and be happy, but her happiness is not like her grandson imagine it. Now, he needs someone to look after his beloved Gran, someone like...

....Liz- she's 'uptight',  a control freak, a good girl, a buttoned-up kind of woman, with dreams of a loving husband, children and living the' happily ever after'. Well, Ryan is not a boyfriend material and of course, he doesn't want to be a husband or a father- but in his defense, he has his personal demons to battle, issues about his father- and Liz knows that, well almost all that. Let's not forget this little fact about how he needs a keeper for his Gran.

What I loved the most about this series is the humor that appears in every context, like how his Gran wants to buy a motorcycle, or his Gran's marriage with the dance instructor, or the ' Daisy Problem'- a little problem that involves a baby and the paternity of said baby. And let's not forget about Ryan's brothers, Travis (it reminds me of Travis in the 'Beautiful' series by Jamie McGuire) and Shane, brother that could not be more different because while Trav is a trouble maker boy, Shane is your cute next door boy, and Ryan is the responsible one, with a wild side tight contained. A wild side that responds to Liz's uptight one.

So... begins a mating game, that no one, Liz or Ryan, accepts to lose and Liz find the perfect solution- a no-string attached kind of affair, with no obligations from the parts and Ryan is more then fine with this compromise, but little by little the situation gets serious and one little incident puts the couple face to face with one big dilemma- to continue this affair or give up?

Characters

Liz- beautiful, even if she doesn't admit it, uptight, smart and a control freak is one of the story tellers in this book and also Ryan's love interest. Because of her nature she loves control , more so because of her irresponsible, but endearing sister, Daisy and because of her insecurities as a teen. She needs to obtain a large payment because of her sister and to be Ryan's Gran keeper seems the perfect solution- it really isn't if we keep in mind their history and her little teen crush.

Ryan- responsible, no non-sense  kind of guy, not a boyfriend material and ex-cop is the other story teller and also Liz's crush. A very jealous guy if you know his weakness and Liz is his weakness, even if he doesn't want to admit it . He had trouble growing up because of the suicide of his mother an his problems with his father and because of that he's overprotective with his little brothers and his old grandma, and partly he's right to be this way...

Maggie, Ryan's Gran, Shane, Trav, Daisy, Rachel , Jorge and all the others I'll let you find more about them reading the book because it's worth every cent- it has humor, drama, love, friendship and is a really beautiful story about family and the sacrifices this notion implies it.

Final Verdict- Read it because you won't regret it. Personally, I can't wait to read Trav's story- the bad boy, because I held hope that him and Daisy will be together and even if not, well I would love it because it's his history. And Shane's story, well something tells me that the heroine will find a way to loosen him up.

Happy Reading!

Ryan just stood there, his sharp eyes studying her. "You're a puzzle, Liz."
"I am?"
He reached out and smoothed a lock of hair behind her ear, and her heart caught in her throat at the gentle gesture. "You seem so…uptight," he said. She stiffened and took a step back. "But I know you were checking me out when I was mowing."
She flushed, but rallied quickly. "I was only bringing you water." She crossed her arms and said primly, "You surprised me when you dumped the water on your head. I was merely looking to see if you were going to do any other…surprising things."
His lips twitched. "You're like a librarian just waiting to let loose."
"Is that supposed to be a compliment?" she bristled, hands on her hips.
"There it is." He smiled and stepped close, crowding her space. She drew in a quick breath, but held her ground. "The puzzle—fire and ice."
She put both hands on his solid chest and pushed him out the door. "Next time, mail the check." She shut the door in his face, turned and leaned against it. "Urgh!"

"That's what I'm talking about," he said through the door.
She ripped open the door. "Go away."
His head cocked to the side while he bit back a smile. "Is that any way to talk to your employer?"
"Gah!" She slammed the door and locked it. She heard his low laugh as he walked away.
